B.Eats @ B.East Present RYAN HEMSWORTH (WeDidIt, Canada)

Our Friends up at The B.east are hosting this supremely awesome (and FREE!!) party

From his debut EP ‘Slow Hands’ to remixes for Grimes, Frank Ocean and Future, Ryan Hemsworth is moving up. He was also named one of Fact Magazines’s producers to watch in 2012. Set to release a brand new EP ‘Last Words’ on the back of collaborations with Main Attractionz, Haleek Maul and Mishka NYC, this is his first Australian tour and we’re more than excited to have him come party with us.
Back In March, producer Ryan Hemsworth’s mix for the website Live For the Funk singlehandedly made the beyond played-out mash-up vital again. That hour-and-then-some, kitchen-sink piling-on of music from anywhere and everywhere even took the time to sonically connects all its dots (Grimes slamming into Mariah!), featured an inspired mash-up of Three Six Mafia’s “Late Nite Tip,” and the Microphones’ “Instrumental”.

Album Day 1.9.12

Album of The Week: Cosmic Waves - Robot Koch (2012)

After last year`s critically acclaimed full length album ‘The Other Side‘, Robot Koch is back with a new limited double white vinyl 10” LP on entitled ‘Cosmic Waves‘. The EP features both new Robot Koch tracks as well as collaborations he made with affiliated artists.

Instead of going the “usual route” by asking fellow artists to simply remix his music, Robot chose to send out half-finished tunes to his selection of musicians in order to have them finish and complete them in their very own way. To avoid the “name-dropping game” of asking the same intrenched names over and over again, he chose to collaborate with young and upcoming artists he personally favors and whose sound he really digs.

Album Day 25.8.12

Album of the Week: Expensive Shit/He Miss Road - Fela Kuti (1975)

It’s that guitar vamp and the onslaught of percussion, the horns that sound like pure joy, and the fury and humor of a man caught in the crosshairs of a corrupt government. Fela Kuti’s afrobeat is both protest and celebration. It’s kinetic, complex and infectious, the sound of Africa awakening from its colonial nightmare full of righteousness and rage.

WOW!! Now That Was A Party - Detroit Techno Militia Take Over Section 8.

Sunday 12th of August and Techno doyens Detroit Techno Militia took over the carpark for one night of four-on-the-floor madness. One of our bestest parties ever our Section 8 crew reckon, made even better by local legend Matt Radovich’s badass Ghettotech set to finish off proceedings.

Much love to all who came down on the night, keep posted for more good times…

Album Day 4.8.12

Album of the Week: Thinking In Textures - Chet Faker (2012)

Yes yes, a little late to jump on the whole Chet Faker bandwagon you may proclaim, but we’re busy little munchkins here at Section 8 and there is a lot of good music out there; we can only choose one Album of the Week!

Our second Melburnian weekly selection, Chet Faker hails from our tight-knit post-disco, neo-soul  and house scene. His music melts these elements into influences from an acoustic past, hidden behind an alias and disguised by a beard.
